Another dull day, exactly as forecast. Today’s mission was to check out some locations on the Füssen branch that I’d noted from the train around 18 months ago. This year’s timetable saw a big increase in the number of loco worked trains on the branch with around half the Augsburg trains and all the München trains now diagrammed for 218s and push-pull sets. The remaining services are worked by DMUs of classes 628 and 642.

The best locations all turned out to be within a few km of Weizern-Hopferau station and mainly to the south. There is a good spot just north of Seeg but that was the only one I found anywhere else. There are poles and wires along the east side of the line virtually the whole way, making morning photography difficult, except where the line swings round at Weizern-Hopferau. The other problem is that the locos are always at the south end of the push-pull sets, making it difficult to work the spectacular mountain backdrop behind Füssen into the pictures. Still there are several excellent shots to go back for on a sunny afternoon, something I’ve yet to see on this trip.
