A good day, at last, with eight freights, seven of them photographed in sun. All but one were 232 hauled, the exception was a 233, and one was double headed.
I started with a brief visit to the Hof/Cheb line where the expected train turned up almost immediately in poor light. The next move was over to Etzelwang on the Schwandorf line where the cloud was beginning to break. The morning freight passed in good light but only just. The loco was less than 100 yards away when the shadows cleared the track.
Then it was back to the Hof/Cheb line again, this time going to Velden as the cloud was still hanging on in the west. I’d never seen Velden in sun before noon so the light angle at 10:00 came as a bit of a surprise. Fortunately nothing came for a couple of hours, by which time the light was tickling the fronts of two southbound freights that passed in quick succession.
The afternoon was spent near Etzelwang again with four westbound freights, including a colourful train of PKP coal hoppers, and an eastbound ALEX bagged between 14:00 and 16:00, all in superb light. The light was so good, I even photted some of those nice class 610 DMUs. Apart from the afternoon ALEX from Praha, photographed at Hersbruck Ost, that was it for the day.
