A full day on the Gäubahn, the Stuttgart - Singen line, between Horb and Rottweil. The big attraction this year is the variety of motive power diagrammed to work Stuttgart - Zürich IC services. Four different classes were in action today with a class 110 (instead of the booked class 115) and a class 181 (as booked) joining the usual 101s and 120s. The trains appear to be shorter than they were a couple of years ago with 5-coach rakes of SBB stock on every train seen and no strengthening for the Friday afternoon crowds.

There were also a few freights hauled by class 185s and even a yellow 203 on a yellow ballast train. The Stuttgart - Singen RE trains were worked by class 146.2s, as expected, while the Stuttgart - Rottweil REs continue to be worked by class 425 EMUs.

The weather started foggy then cleared briefly before clouding up. There were a few short sunny breaks during the day but overall it was a frustrating experience, especially as the 110 just missed the sun on both occasions I tried to photograph it. The 181 was slightly better behaved and caught the sun once out of three attempts.
