Another disappointing day with no shots of loco hauled trains in full sun. It started promisingly enough with breaks in the cloud at Walluf, where I’m staying, and plenty of freight going past while I was having breakfast.
Out on the lineside it was a different story with almost unbroken cloud and very little traffic. In the first three hours only three freights passed and it was almost another three hours before the next one. Things got better after 15:00 with eleven more trains in the four hours to 19:00, a total of 15 freights in ten hours.
Once again, there were more freights on the left bank along with the loco hauled ICs and 143s on the 2-hourly REs. The weather improved in the late afternoon but clouds managed to get in the way for every single train I tried to phot.
One observation of note was a 103 going south in the morning with a matching rake of red and cream stock, just like it used to be when there were proper passenger trains in the Rhein Valley. It was on the other side of the river so I couldn’t see the number. Also on the left bank, all the RE trains seen were top’n’tail 143s on three or four coach dosto rakes.
