My last day on the RhB, for this week at least. All trip I’d been contemplating a trip to Davos to get the morning shots at Wolfgang and then look at some positions between Platz and Frauenkirch. Any day the weather looked likely to be good, the combination of engines wasn’t, with the prime trains scheduled to be hauled by 644, 649 or both. I’d decided to go on the last day anyway as it was a good way of getting to Landquart for my train back to Zürich and I could leave my luggage at Davos Platz while I went out photographing. It got even better when they swapped 644 and 648 over, the first change of duties for Ge4/4iii since I arrived. The prime trains were hauled by 648 and 651, my two favourites, and there was the added bonus of getting 605 and 608 on the Sportzüge as well. A pretty good end to the trip.
The journey back to Zürich was on an ICN unit on train ICN508, the first time I’d been on one apart from the odd trip from Zürich HB to Flughafen or v.v. It was interesting to compare the smooth tilting, comfort and ambiance of the ICN with the awful Czech Pendolinos with their claustrophobic high backed seats and jerky tilting. From HB to Flughafen I caught a Konstanz bound IR, propelled by a 460.
There were forecasts of heavy snow in south-eastern England and I half expected my flight to Heathrow to be delayed. In the event, it left on time and even arrived a few minutes early, although the time gained was lost again when we parked at a remote stand and had to be bussed to the terminal.
On the Bernina, 801 was out on passenger trains, working trains 4624, 1624, 1617 and 1652, along with an ABe4/4ii. 802 worked 4657 in the evening, along with motor coach 48.
