The forecast was for cloud to spread in from the north to cover the whole area by mid-afternoon. I went south on the 07:20 Chur - Scuol-Tarasp train with 619 in the hope of getting some sun somewhere. There were plenty of options if there was any good light, Saas, Klosters, Ardez, S-chanf, Bever, Celerina or even the Bernina. 706 was waiting to leave Landquart with 8521, an ECS to Chur, and 605 was ready to follow us south with 811. The cloud was solid in the Prättigau but by Klosters a few chinks were visible on the southern horizon.

Emerging from the Vereina tunnel at Sagliains, the sky was largely clear with just a few bits of cloud floating around the mountaintops. 645 was seen there on a Vereina car shuttle. The other two locos, seen at Selfranga, appeared to be 643 and 646. I changed at Sagliains to train 1921, propelled by 618. 604 was passed at Susch with 1924. As we climbed up the Engadin it was starting to look pretty good and I got off at S-chanf expecting to get something in sun. Twenty minutes later, before the sun had even crept over the horizon, it was all over and the only clear sky visible was a good way to the south-west. 624 was seen on 1928 and 607 on 853. I left S-chanf on 1925, with 604, bound for Pontresina, or further south, in a desperate attempt to find the sun.

There was an opportunity to see how the Bernina Express was handled at Samedan and Pontresina. Unusually, 1925 doesn't wait at Samedan for 1125 to arrive from Chur. It waits until 1125 is drawing into the platform and just when potential connectees think that they might make it, 1925 leaves. 642 was on 1125 and 609 was waiting to take the St. Moritz coaches forward. At Pontresina motor coaches 53 and 54 arrived from St. Moritz with a second class coach and a Panoramawagen in tow. After passengers had boarded, the train pulled forward and waited. 642 arrived from Samedan a few minutes later on the same platform, uncoupled and pulled forward onto the headshunt. The motor coaches then backed our train onto the waiting coaches, coupled up and we were away. 642 didn't wait long and was heading back to Samedan light engine before we left.

As we climbed the Bernina it became clear that the blue sky was heading south faster than we were, so I baled out at Alp Grüm and returned on the next train, 1644 with 46. By Ospizio Bernina the line was actually in the clouds and by Pontresina it was snowing. New unit 3502 was out but working a slightly different diagram to the previous week, including trains 1640 and 1633.

After a short break for lunch, I headed back north, firstly on 1948 to Samedan and then to Chur on RE1148 with 644. 603 was at Bergün waiting to leave for Preda on 871, 609 was overtaken at Thusis on 5152 and 702 was at Bonaduz on 5151.

Later in the evening 707 passed Chur with 5264.
