Not much hope for sun anywhere today but, as usual, the best chance appeared to be further south. As always, I took train 1221 at 07:20 from Chur, with 614 in charge today. 605 and 606 were at Landquart as usual, waiting to work the Klosters - Davos shuttles. Unusually, 620 was on ECS 8521 instead of the expected Ge6/6ii. For the second day running there was a new unit waiting at Klosters but this time it was 3502, apparently heading towards Landquart as empty stock.

Although the cloud was thinning by Klosters, it was still overcast. The weather looked much better on the other side of the Vereina Tunnel, with a mixture of very thin high cloud and small patches of blue sky. I changed to 1921, propelled by 604, at Sagliains and travelled up the Engadin to S-chanf. 607 was crossed at Susch on 1924 and 701 was crossed at Zernez on either a late running 5922 or an early 5336 (they’re both part of the same turn anyway).

For the fourth time this month, I walked out to the bridge west of S-chanf in the hope of getting a Ge4/4i in good light. As train time approached a large dark cloud edged towards the sun. Just when it looked like the cloud would win again, 604 rolled into view and passed in good, although not perfect light - probably as good as I'll get though.

The next pic was planned for Madulain but, less than half an hour later, the plan had changed. The sky had completely clouded over apart from a rapidly diminishing blue patch around Samedan. Instead of photting 607 on train 1932, I travelled on it to Sagliains and changed onto RE1236 with 619 on the front. Crocodile 415 was crossed at Cinuos-chel-Brail, heading west with a single, empty flat wagon.

On the other side of the Vereina Tunnel the weather was marginally better, but only marginally. 606 was stabled at Klosters, in between Davos shuttles. Train 1237 to Scuol-Tarasp was crossed at Klosters Dorf, double headed by 631 and 615. I got off at Saas in the hope that the light would improve but the best I got was very weak sun. In addition to the booked trains, 632 took a three-coach special down the hill, following RE1040. This was was almost certainly something to do with the World Economic Forum as it had its own military helicopter escort - first time I've ever seen that!

After a couple of hours, it was obvious that the light wasn't going to get any better, so it was back to the station for train 1244 back to Chur, eleven coaches and a van, double headed as far as Landquart by 615 and 631. The van came off there and so did 615. 703 was crossed at Küblis on 5047. 601 and 707 were at Landquart, presumably after working 5042 and waiting to work 5155 respectively. 610 was at Chur having just arrived from Disentis on Glacier 910.

615 started on duty 305, then 615 and 631 double headed 1237 (presumably from Landquart) and 1244. At Landquart 615 was removed from 1244 and 631 continued.

§ A bit of inspired guesswork here.

ø May have only done 8521, not the whole turn.
