Another quiet day on the main system and another trip to the Bernina, this time heading further south to the area around Privilasco on the climb from Poschiavo to Alp Grüm. This time the weather remained sunny all day and Privilasco, deep in the valley, kept the light for much longer than I’d imagined. Care had to be taken to avoid wasting prime shots on either the Bernina 100 liveried motor coach or the new unit but it was a good day overall with a high proportion of class ABe4/4ii power cars about, both working singly and in pairs. The most memorable part of the day was the climb from Bernina Lagalb to Ospizio Bernina and on along the shore of Lago Bianco towards Alp Grüm. Motor coaches 48 and 43 were propelling a snowplough and kicked up enormous plumes of snow, like waves crashing over the bow of a ship in rough seas. Of course it was impossible to photograph without getting a camera and a face full of snow but it was marvellous to watch.

802 was passed at Ospizio Bernina on the way out with a rotary snowplough. On the main system 601 was working the Bergün – Preda Schlittelzüge and 603 and 604 were out on the Pontresina – Scuol-Tarasp trains. With 3502 now appearing to work regularly on the Bernina (on the same trains as on Sunday), it was a great relief to see 5151 had reverted to Ge6/6ii haulage.
