With only four daytime freights booked on the Nürnberg - Hof line, I’d expected a quiet day but everything fell into place nicely, allowing a couple of visits to the Regensburg - Marktredwitz line during the gaps. I started off at Neuhaus where a late running Nürnberg - Cheb freight took me by surprise before the expected Cheb - Nürnberg appeared. The southbound was looped at Neuhaus but still managed to overtake me before I could get to a second position at Enzendorf. However, it wasn’t long before the Zwickau appeared and the shot was in the bag.
A quick dash over to Irrenlohe, the junction north of Schwandorf, produced a few more shots in the gap before the afternoon trains. I missed the most interesting working though. A 225 (I assume) went north from Irrenlohe around 10:15 on a train of hopper wagons, just like those seen on the stone train seen at Lehendorf on Monday. There were a couple of staff in hi-vis overalls riding the wagons so I assume it wasn’t going too far.
Back on the Nürnberg - Hof line, the lunchtime northbound wasn’t seen, either it ran very early or not at all. The afternoon southbound did appear, running well ahead of time. Then it was over to Pechbrunn on the Regensburg line for a 294 on a trip freight and an ALEX to round off an excellent day when every train passed in good light.
