A strangely rewarding day despite there being no prospect of the sun ever appearing. The whole day was spent checking out locations on the Ulm - Friedrichshafen line between Meckenbeuren and Bad Schussenried. These were all potential spots that I’d seen from the train yesterday and a surprising number turned out to be good enough to justify a return visit. I’d even go as far as to classify a handful as exceptionally good and, unlike a number of lines I’ve done recently, almost every position was within reasonable walking distance of a station. Platform end photters, you have no excuse for taking pictures in mediocre locations anymore. For a line that I’d written off as flat and boring for years, the wealth of photo locations came as a very pleasant surprise.
There were no surprises on the traction front with Ulm 218s on Lindau - Ulm/Stuttgart IREs, 611s on Ulm - Schaffhausen IREs (they normally go to Basel but there’s engineering work at the moment) and BOB’s 650s on Aulendorf - Friedrichshafen stoppers. BOB is the Bodensee Oberschwaben Bahn, not to be confused with the Bayerische Oberland Bahn, the Berner Oberland Bahn or one of several million other Bobs around the world. IC118 and 119 produced the expected pairs of class 218s.
