Another mixed day with a few good shots and plenty of frustration in between. The morning started well with the mist clearing rapidly, leaving a clear blue sky for a couple of hours before it clouded over. The middle of the day was overcast with the clouds growing increasingly threatening until the heavens opened in mid afternoon. The rest of the day was a mixture of torrential downpours and glorious sunny breaks, one of which coincided with a train, but only just.
There were no surprises on the operational front with everything running pretty well as expected. A local gricer did tell me more about the stone train though. After arriving at Friedrichshafen it just sits until the middle of the night then continues to Kressbronn, between Friedrichshafen and Lindau, for unloading. Apparently this has to be done when there are no service trains around as part of the train occupies the main line during unloading. Once unloaded, it returns to Friedrichshafen just before passenger services resume and then goes north to Roßberg for reloading around 06:00. Presumably the timing of the southbound working allows a single Friedrichshafen based crew to work the complete circuit.
