For the first time all week visibility was actually good today with the Alps clearly visible from north of Kißlegg, over 50km away. Unfortunately the sky was nothing like as clear and I might as well have given up after the first photo at 08:30.
With the Memmingen - Hergatz line closed east of Aichstetten for engineering work, all the München - Zürich ECs were diverted via Kempten and the Allgäubahn so that’s where I headed first thing. After the first few trains it was back to the Ulm - Friedrichshafen line for yet another unsuccessful attempt at photographing in the Schussentobel near Durlesbach. The original plan was to go back to the Allgäubahn for the evening but there was little chance of getting anything in the sun so I hung around Aulendorf for a couple of hours before finally giving up.
DB weren’t having a particularly good day either with IRE4227 to Lindau and its booked return IRE4234 failing to appear, presumably a failure somewhere as everything else was close to right time. Also worthy of mention was the special seen at Bühl in the morning with an unidentified 218 on around six coaches, one of which was in InterCity colours. The remaining stock was in Regio red, including a buffet or restaurant car. I’d hoped to beat it to Maria Thann but must have just missed it.
