The last day of the trip started in the Rhein Valley at Bacharach where the usual 101 worked trains were seen in addition to the MRCE 182 on EC7 and a 120 on IC119, incidentally the same locos that had gone north the previous day in both cases. The only northbound trains recorded below are those with propelling locos. My position didn’t allow me to get a good look at locos on the front of northbound trains but there was a northbound Autozug early on with a 110/115/140 on the front and a northbound freight with a 145/152/185. I was also aware of a few freights on the opposite bank but much fewer than the previous day. After about two hours of the sun only coming out when there wasn’t a train around, I got a southbound ICE and a class 460 EMU in good light and that was it.
At lunchtime I moved over to Pünderich, south of Bullay, on the Mosel where the clouds prevented any shots from being taken in good light, despite a lot of blue sky. In almost two hours there were no loco hauled passengers apart from a northbound special hauled by a pair of Re4/4is belonging to Centralbahn. This train seems to be a regular occurance on a Sunday. A northbound freight hauled by a pair of 185s was also seen. Apart from that it was all EMUs, a 425 on RE12003 and 442s or 443s on the locals. I left just before 15:00, pursued by a heavy shower.
All that was left was a long drive through Luxembourg, across southern Belgium and northern France to Calais, a shuttle ride through the tunnel and then home.
