With no Ge4/4is on particularly useful workings and poor weather forecast, it was time to try something different, and I travelled up to Spinas, at the south end of the Albula Tunnel to try a shot of a train leaving the tunnel. A fairly unproductive hour was spent there, getting a southbound freight and a passenger in each direction. Then, I continued into the Engadin, where there were occasional sunny spells between snow showers, travelling to Bever via Pontresina and back.
New ABe4/14 suburban unit 3101 was seen stabled at Samedan, looking very similar at first glance to the 35xx series ABe8/12 Allegras already on the railway but with one unpowered driving trailer and a pair of articulated trailers in the middle, hence the unusual 14 axles.
Three hours were then spent near Bever, getting two out of sixteen trains in sun, including 618 on the return freight from Serneus to Pontresina, consisting of three wagons with swap-body type hoppers. By lunchtime the sun was getting too far round and I headed east to try a shot of the impressive but difficult to photograph bridge at Cinuos-Chel-Brail. Unfortunately it was too difficult to get a good shot so I left to return to Filisur via Sagliains, Klosters, Landquart and Chur.
