Last Of A Kind
Manchester Glossop & Hadfield Class 506 EMU M59602M, M59502M & M59402M prepared to leave Manchester Picadilly with the 14:30 to Hadfield on 30 January 1981. These were the last 1500V DC electrics in BR service. The standard electrification system of the late 1940s lasted for only 2 more years before it was all gone.
