An altogether better day with quality rather than quantity the aim. The morning was spent covering a lot of miles and targetting specific trains at specific locations between Oberstaufen, on the Allgäubahn, and Meckenbeuren, on the Südbahn. Not many pictures but the ones that counted were all in sun. Things were spiced up a bit by the appearance of shiny black Dispolok 223.013 on the 08:00 ALEX from Lindau but it was disappointing to find a pair of 611s on IRE4207 from Ulm to Lindau, a train that was 218 worked when I last saw it in early May. At least the most photogenic train wasn’t a unit. The Roßberg - Friedrichshafen stone was worked by 232.635 and, as usual, passed the curve north of Meckenbeuren well ahead of schedule at 11:03.
Most of the afternoon was spent on the Oberstdorf branch, where yellow 218.391 was again in charge of ALEX workings and 218.434 worked IC2085. The second IC wasn’t seen as I’d gone for a long walk around the Alpsee, west of Immenstadt, to try a shot of diverted EC192 running along the shoreline. Then it was back to the Oberstdorf branch where the hoped for 218 on the 18:59 ECS from Oberstdorf failed to appear.
The weather was pretty good throughout with clear skies most of the morning but more in the way of cloud during the afternoon, when about half the trains passed in sun.
