A lazy day beside the pool! That was the ever growing pool of rainwater beside my parking spot next to the Shaffhausen - Zürich line south of Eglisau. It rained all morning so there was no point in doing anything apart from sitting in the car watching the trains go by. Only a visit from the Border Police livened things up. Fortunately alles was in ordnung and they soon departed.
Passenger services were back to normal after Thursday’s holiday with 460.054 on the Shaffhausen - Zürich IRs and 450s on the Rafz - Pfäffikon S-Bahn services. Interestingly, none of the 450s that went to Pfäffikon came back in the seven hours I was there so the diagram must be fairly complex. The REs were still 511s with the same units shuttling back and forth all day and the Stuttgart Zürich ICs were the booked mix of one 420 and two 421s.
There were a number of freights but only one stone train all day, and that was worked by an Re6/6 rather than the hoped for Ae6/6. By mid afternoon I’d given up hope of getting an Ae6/6 and went to Bülach where the same three locos were in exactly the same place as the previous day. I got the impression that the Ae6/6s were only used when nothing else was available and traffic would have to pick up significantly before they would be turned out.
No point in hanging around then, so it was off to Germany and the start of the long journey home.
