With the 749 hauled trains likely to finish this year, another couple of days on the Ceske Budejovice - Nove Udoli line seemed in order. There have been a few changes since I was last here, most notably the 06:07 from C. Bud and 09:17 return, which were loco hauled on my last visit in August, were a class 809 railbus today. The other three out and back turns were loco hauled with 749.253, 749.254 and 749.260 doing the honours today. 749.260 appeared to be on loan, or possibly stolen, and had “DKV Praha” stencilled on the cabside. I remember it better as a Letohrad engine but that was a few years ago.
742.284 was at Kajov this morning, presumably having worked in from Ceske Budejovice on the pick-up goods. CD Cargo blue 751.219 worked the Kajov - Volary pick-up and passed Horice at 11:14, more than an hour earlier than I’ve ever seen it before. The Viamont class 720 that was at Kajov in August has gone, along with the grain hoppers it was employed to shunt. The collection of preserved vehicles including an 0-6-0T and a 720 that were at Stozec have also disappeared.
Most of the day was dull and wet but eventually the rain stopped and by late afternoon the cloud was well broken. I went to a good location near Stozec for the last loco hauled from Ceske Budejovice but found it was already in shadow and had to settle for a much less attractive position nearby. Still, at least the shot was in sun. The return working was photographed approaching Stozec in a position that had previously been blocked by the preserved stock stabled there.
