55 002, "King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry", was restored to two-tone green livery in December 1980 after being selected by the National Railway Museum for preservation as part of the National Collection. By December 1981 it was in great demand for railtours but saw relatively little use on regular service trains.
On 20 December 1981 "KOYLI" worked 1M70, the 15:40 York - Liverpool train. Better still, the Deltic posed in the perfect spot under the roof at York for longer than expected due to the late arrival of a connecting HST from the north.
