Pacific Graveyard
Until late 1985 passengers travelling on the long line west from Datong to Shizuishan would have been hauled by a relay of SL6 Pacifics from Hohhot, Baotou and Linhe depots. As train weights increased larger locos became necessary and the Pacifics from all three depots were retired. Baotou's SLs were dumped at Baotou Bei depot and scrapped slowly over the next decade.SL 771, the highest numbered SL6, was one of around five remaining largely intact into January 1990 and was photographed on the 6th of the month.
