After arriving from King's Cross with the final northbound special on 2 January 1982, 55 015 retired to Haymarket Depot where it was the centre of attention. Unlike some sheds further south, most Scottish depots were very welcoming to enthusiasts and a sizeable crowd gathered to pay their last respects. Serious photography was out of the question.
With the agreement of the foreman, a couple of us returned after dark to take some time exposures. The crowds had gone and "Tulyar" sat outside the shed awaiting its very last run as a BR loco, back to York light engine. Happily, it's one of six production Deltics to be preserved.
