Hohhot Depot's QJ 6037 was given the once over at Baotou Xi depot on the morning of 6 January 1990, prior to returning to its home depot with a freight from the yards nearby.The front board appears to have been hastily purloined from another engine but at least it has had the old number painted out. Locos have occasionally been noted in traffic with different numbers on the cabside and front board. As well as being decorative, the front board gives a degree of protection to the pumps behind, useful when temperatures drop well below zero. It can be lifted off easily if access is required.
