A surprise sighting at Sawmills on 29 June 1987 was Caminhos De Ferro Mocambique No 960, one of twelve 4-8-2+2-8-4 Garratts built by Haine St Pierre in 1952. The loco had just been refurbished at ZECO in Bulawayo and had arrived at Sawmills on a test run with engineers from ZECO and CFM in attendance to sort out any problems. The small plate to the left of the numberplate indicated that the refurbishment was funded by US aid money.
