Bandit Country
After a long wait and a bit of shunting to pick up some extra loads, 734 finally got underway from Sawmills with the 00:55 Thomson Jn - Mpopoma goods shortly after midday on 29 June 1987 and was photographed climbing towards Buda, the first siding out. Note the third wagon, with a pitched corrugated iron roof. There was bandit activity in the area at the time and these wagons were used to carry armed soldiers to deter attacks.
