M59601M and M59604M were stabled at Reddish Electric Depot on 30 January 1982 with their respective 5950x trailers and 5940x motor coaches. The Class 506 Manchester - Glossop - Hadfield units were introduced in 1954 to work local services at the Manchester end of the newly electrified Woodhead route. The 1500V DC units lasted until December 1984, when the Manchester - Glossop - Hadfield section was converted to 25kV. The section east of Hadfield, through the Woodhead Tunnel, had closed in 1981.
