Brand New 442
The introduction of the 5-car Class 442 EMUs coincided with the extension of 750V DC electrification to Weymouth in 1988. The vehicles were new but the traction equipment was inherited from the 4REP units that had worked between Waterloo and Bournemouth since 1967. Units 2404 (442.404) and an unidentified sister approached Woking with the 06:04 from Weymouth to Waterloo on 23 June 1988. The new units had a very clean appearance with all the usual jumper cables hidden away behind panels underneath the cab windows
