A Class Apart
Although Chiltern's Class 172 DMUs are very similar in appearance to the same operator's Class 168/3s, there are some important differences, most significantly, different bogies and mechanical transmission instead of hydraulic. Unlike the 168s, they are not fitted with tripcocks, preventing them from operating on the line through Amersham to Aylesbury.172.103 was photographed north of Kings Sutton while working 1U39, the 14:43 from Marylebone to Banbury, in 17 May 2018.
