The line over Podkrivan summit sees several freight workings each day, although volumes have reduced dramatically over the last few decades. The loco hauling this short westbound freight was 773.007, one of 10 locos rebuilt from class 771 heavy shunters since 1998.
In common with many recent rebuilds in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, 773s are powered by Caterpillar engines. The train is 61360, the 00:57 Kosice to Zvolen, and the photo was taken on 6 May 2003.
The 773s don't appear to have been entirely successful as main line locomotives and have since been regauged for use as heavy shunters at the Ukrainian border stations.
