A Better Class of DMU
Regular readers of these pages will know that I'm not usually a great fan of modern DMUs but I'll make an exception in the case of these class 642 units. They are really pleasant to travel in with spacious airy interiors, effective air conditioning, huge windows and not too much engine noise. When you do hear the engine it's a satisfying growl rather than the irritating whine of the 612. Their appearance is unconventional enough to make an interesting photo although the stovepipe chimneys look a bit incongruous.642 091 was working RB32937 from Immenstadt to Oberstdorf past Altstädten on 15 July 2006.
