Hongtuya Crossing
East of Hunjiang, the line from Tonghua enters mountainous country with plenty of steep gradients and sharp curves. Passenger trains were routinely double headed on this section, as illustrated by JS 5688 and JS 5040 crossing the Hongtuya River shortly after leaving Hunjiang station with train 571, the 06:25 from Tonghua to Songshuzhen, on 27 February 1994.
