Double DF8s at Qifeng

By Chinese standards, DF8 is a small class with only 140 or so locos, 100 of which are based at Mudanjiang in north-east China. They are heavy freight locos and spend much of their time hauling coal from the Jixi and Qitaihe coalfields towards Harbin. DF8 0082 and DF8 0094 were filmed passing Qifeng on the Mudanjiang - Harbin line with a loaded coal train.

DF4D west of Bei'an

Bei’an is in the far north-east of China, not far from the Russian border. This clip shows DF4D 3322 rumbling over a level crossing on the line to Qiqihaer with train 2124/2125 from Dandong to Qiqihaer. Note the flagman in his yellow jacket. Even the most remote farm crossing was protected in this way.

Orange DF4B on Tonghua - Hunjiang

This clip was taken on the Tonghua - Hunjiang line in north-east China in October 2008. This area was a favourite in steam days and is still worth visiting for the colourful diesels. DF4 2163 was accelerating away from Daoqing with train 6350.
