Faded Glory
45140 passed an impressive retaining wall on the approach to Marsden with 1E08, the 08:15 from Holyhead to Newcastle, on 17 April 1987. 45140 was one of 20 Peaks to survive into 1988 but only lasted until March. The line here had been the LNWR's main line across the Pennines, four-track and busy with freight traffic, but was reduced to double track by the 1980s. No freight was seen on the day I visited but it was Good Friday, which might explain it.
