The Ultimate Peak
45106 approached Diggle with 1E94, the 08:03 Liverpool Lime St to Newcastle passenger, on the morning of 17 April 1987. The writing was on the wall for the Peaks by 1987. Of 193 built, 60 examples were still on the books at the beginning of the year but that would be reduced to 20 by the end. 45106, the former D106, built at Crewe in 1961, was the very last Peak in traffic, withdrawn in February 1989.
