A busy east-west route linking the West and East Midlands via Nuneaton on the West Coast Main Line. Cross Country runs the passenger service using Class 170 DMUs. Freight traffic is also fairly heavy with intermodal services heading towards East Anglia and stone trains from the Leicestershire quarries
