The 34 Class 68 3800hp Bo-Bo diesel-electrics were built between 2013 and 2017 by Vossloh, later Stadler, and most are in service with DRS, working freight trains. Chiltern also has 14 locos for passenger work between London and the West Midlands, replacing 6 of the class sub-leased from DRS.
Trans Pennine Express planned to use push-pull equipped Class 68s sub-leased from DRS with Mk5 sets on passenger services from Liverpool and Manchester to Leeds, York and Scarborough. TPE changed its mind in 2023, before the whole fleet was in service, and returned the locos to DRS, who had no use for them and returned them to Beacon Rail.
In early 2026 the former TPE locos and coaches started to enter service with Chiltern, replacing the locos hired from DRS and Mk3 push-pull sets.
