Down and Up

66097 was working hard as it passed Wymondham Crossing with 4L32, the well-loaded 09:20 Trafford Park Euro Terminal to Felixstowe North containers, on 2 December 2025.

The Syston to Peterborough route doesn't have any really steep gradients but it's not particularly flat either. A change of gradient from 1 in 445 down to 1 in 418 up can be seen here where the shadows cross the line around 7 or 8 containers back from the loco but the train has been climbing at between 1 in 260 and 1 in 300 most of the way from Melton Mowbray. After a short undulating section past Whissendine the climb resumes for another 3 miles at 1 in 181 to the summit between Ashwell and Langham Jn.
