Alternative Routes
45111 approached Diggle with 1E82, the 09:03 from Liverpool Lime St to Scarborough, on 17 April 1986.The portal visible above the third coach is the entrance to Butterhouse Tunnel on the Micklehurst Loop, built by the LNWR as a less steeply graded alternative to the main line from Stalybridge in 1885 and closed in 1966. The original (and current) route curves round to the right behind the factory buildings.
The loco was withdrawn three weeks after the photo was taken but was retained for a couple of years for use by Derby RTC before being scrapped in 1992.
