Loco Hauled Swansong
31424 emerged from Cowburn Tunnel with 1E29, the 07:38 from Liverpool Lime St to Cleethorpes.Class 31s had taken over Trans-Pennine services via the Hope Valley from Class 123 and 124 DMUs in 1984 but were themselves replaced by Class 156 DMUs in 1988. 31424 outlasted many members of the class, being acquired by Fragonset after withdrawal. It never returned to service and was scrapped in 2006 after a long period out of use at Barrow Hill.
