All Change
QJ 1651 and an unidentified sister filled the air with crisp white exhaust as they dragged a long freight around the final curve before the summit tunnel north of Ganggou, on the Meihekou - Tonghua line, on 31 January 1992. I went back to this location in 2008 but found the lineside obscured by mature trees and a motorway viaduct crossing the valley just above where the locos are in this picture. It's not only the steam that's disappeared in the three decades since the picture was taken, China is also a very different place.
