Declining Steam
The turntable operator at Changchun prepared to give the driver of QJ 1010 the right away at Changchun Depot on 29 January 1991 as a DF4 diesel looked on. Most line work on the busy main lines north to Harbin and south to Shenyang had gone diesel during the previous year, leaving steam on the secondary routes to Jilin and Da'an Bei. QJ 1010 was probably a Da'an Bei engine.
