Semaphore
QJ 7137 passed the distant signal for Shangdian at the entrance to the summit tunnel under Jingpeng Pass with train 22844, the 08:50 freight from Daban to Haoluku, on 16 February 2001. Semaphore signals weren't particularly common in China in the mid-1980s, with colour lights controlling most routes, even branch lines and industrial railways. By the mid-1990s they were decidedly rare, so when the JiTong line opened in late 1995 with semaphores at almost every station, it was a real surprise but a very pleasant one.
