Back to Bullay for the morning yet again. This time the cloud broke from time to time and a handful of shots were taken in good light. The afternoon was spent at Oberwesel where there also a few sunny breaks.
Despite it being a Saturday 13 freights were seen in 6 hours on the Mosel line, including a pair of 140s on a coal train. Loco haulage of local services increased even further with all 7 REs and 11 out of 13 RBs worked by 143s. All the ICs were 181 worked except for Saturdays only IC2427 from Trier, which had a 101.
On the Koblenz - Mainz line all local services were worked by MittelRheinBahn class 460 “Desiro” EMUs with 101s on most IC trains. I was pleasantly surprised to find most IC trains were hauled with only 1 out of 12 trains being propelled. In addition to the 101s, a couple of trains were worked by 120s and there was one with a Dispo class 182.5 (booked). No freights were seen on the left bank, possibly due to a signalling problem north of St Goar that was causing delays to passenger services. On the right bank there were plenty of freights, hauled by a wide variety of locos.
