The morning was spent north of Bullay, trying a shot I hadn’t got the previous day. There wasn’t much light around but a couple of trains were photographed in half sun. By late morning the sky was completely overcast so I headed back to Koblenz and took a train down to Oberwesel, on the left bank of the Rhein, to check out the shot off the old town wall. Back in Koblenz, the light was improving so it was back up the Mosel to Kattenes to try a couple of shots, unsuccessfully, before returning to Winningen for another excellent evening.
No less than 24 freights today including the very welcome appearance of a class 139 and a class 140. The proportion of RE trains worked by 143s reduced to 7 out of 12 but 18 out of 23 RBs were 143. The number of sets with locos at each end increased to 3. All ICs were 181 again.
