Flying Machine
Main line steam can be rather uninspiring these days, with locos shuffling along on air-conditioned coaches and a diesel at the back doing a lot of the work. That certainly wasn't the case when Britannia flew through Twyford with 1Z14 on the evening of 8 September 2024, looking and sounding every bit the express passenger engine it is. 70000 was working an 18:14 Chichester to Paddington special, formed of a nice rake of blood and custard Mk1s with the diesel on the back just providing some extra weight to make the Brit work harder.
