A Class Apart

Although Chiltern's Class 172 DMUs are very similar in appearance to the same operator's Class 168/3s, there are some important differences, most significantly, different bogies and mechanical transmission instead of hydraulic. Unlike the 168s, they are not fitted with tripcocks, preventing them from operating on the line through Amersham to Aylesbury.
