You Cannot Be Serious!

That was my reaction after travelling on the prototype Pacer on 28 July 1981. The fittings all seemed too flimsy to withstand the rigours of railway service and the ride on jointed track was atrocious. The thought that this heap of junk could form the basis for a fleet of over 160 trains that would remain in service for almost 40 years was just laughable.

140.001 was doing demonstration runs between Moor St and Tyseley and was photographed leaving the terminus on the same day.
