Biomass

With increasingly tight emissions restrictions and subsidies for renewable generation, power stations are burning increasing volumes of biomass, mainly wood chips. That means more trains per Terawatt hour of generation as the energy density of wood is far lower than that of coal.

66.154 passed Barnetby East box on the up goods line with 6H77, the 16:30 biomass hoppers from Immingham to Drax Power Station on 10 September 2015.
