The line from Marylebone to Aynho Jn via High Wycombe forms the southern section of today's Chiltern Main Line, operated by Chiltern Railways. None of the route is electrified and most trains are DMUs. There are a few loco-hauled workings with hired in DRS Class 68 diesels on push-pull sets.
Marylebone was the GCR's London terminus but most of the route was built by the GWR or as a GWR/GCR joint line, with the principal services being the GWR's Paddington - Birmingham expresses. GCR trains turned off at Ashendon Jn, east of Bicester, to head north towards Leicester.
Freight traffic had been minimal for many years but has recently seen an upturn with stone being delivered to various sites in the Aylesbury area for HS2 construction. There are currently 3 trains each weekday from Tytherington, north of Bristol, to Quainton Railhead, west of Aylesbury, that use the Chiltern line between Northolt Jn and Princes Risborough. There are also occasional workings routed from West London to the west via High Wycombe, the re-instated connection from Bicester to Oxford and the west curve at Didcot.
