Line 750 Stuttgart - Ulm
The Stuttgart - Ulm route is a busy double track electrified main line linking the Rhein-Main conurbation and Stuttgart with München and Austria. Like many German main lines it carries a wide variety of traffic hauled by a wide variety of classes.

Line 740 Stuttgart - Singen
This single-track, electrified route runs along Neckartal on the east side of the Black Forest and carries class 146 hauled REs and class 185 hauled freights. Continuing problems with the tilting ICEs led to a return to loco haulage of InterCity trains in late 2009 with classes 101, 115, 120 and 181 all appearing on Stuttgart - Zürich services.

Line 471 Linke Rheinstrecke
The Koblenz - Mainz main line along the left/west bank of the Rhein was traditionally one of Germany's main north-south passenger routes but lost most of its InterCity traffic when the Köln - Frankfurt NBS opened. There are still hourly InterCity trains, loco hauled RE services and more freights than in the past. Add some superb scenery and a few mediaeval towns and the photographic potential becomes obvious.

Line 466 Rechte Rheinstrecke
The line from Koblenz to Wiesbaden along the right/east bank of the Rhein is one of Germany's busiest freight arteries and very scenic as well. Most of DB's freight electrics can be seen along with the locos of numerous independent operators and, occasionally, diverted ICs and ICEs.

Line 100 Hannover West
A handful of pictures from the 4-track main line west of Hannover. This route carries a good variety of traffic including freight from the busy Seelze Rbf and InterCity, regional and S-Bahn passenger services, many of them loco worked.

Line 241 Dresden - Schöna
The main line from Dresden towards the Czech border runs along the Elbe Valley, a gloriously scenic route between wooded hills and rocky outcrops, dotted with picturesque villages and hilltop castles. The line is busy with local and long distance passengers and frequent freights, hauled by a variety of classes from DB, CD and several independent operators.

Line 950 München - Salzburg
The München to Salzburg line is a busy, electrified, double track, international route carrying a wide variety of passenger and freight trains including Austrian Korridorzüge taking a shortcut across German territory between Salzburg and Kufstein. The landscape is pleasant rather than spectacular but good photo positions are relatively easy to find. I visited the section of line between Traunstein and Freilassing in April 2010.
