The double track Line 80 runs from east to west across the Jutland peninsula and hadn't been electrified at the time these pictures were taken. The route normally saw lots of DMUs and very few locos but for two brief periods in the summers of 2014 and 2015 there were big diesels on diverted international freights as well.
The line runs almost due east - west for 88km from Fredericia on the Baltic coast to to the port of Esbjerg on the North Sea. The countryside it crosses is fairly flat and sparsely populated, mostly agricultural land dotted with clumps of trees, wind turbines and a few settlements. Esbjerg and Kolding, 20km west of Fredericia, are important but not particularly large towns and half a dozen other places along the route are significant enough to warrant a station.

There is no regular freight traffic on the line. Passenger services, all normally DMUs at the time of my visit, consisted of a couple of trains an hour in each direction, one calling at most stations and the other limited stop. Electrification work started in 2014, although there were few signs of it during my visits in 2014 and 2015, and was completed in 2017.

Two extended periods of engineering work on the main line south from Lunderskov, west of Kolding, in 2014 and 2015 meant that freights between Denmark and Germany were diverted via Esbjerg with diesel haulage. Nohab built, GM engined MZ Class Co-Cos worked between Fredericia and Esbjerg with DB Class 232s taking over for the run south through Tønder and Niebüll to Hamburg. My two visits to the line were during the period of the diversions.
